The bedroom should be a comfortable place of refuge. Somewhere you look forward to retiring to every night. In fact, it should be so relaxing that you have to be dragged out of it for duty calls everyday! If the best you can do when you remember your bedroom is wish the night didn't begin until after 2a.m, then you need to do something about it! Could it be the colors that put you in a horrible mood? Your bed? Perhaps it's the entire setting in the room? Let's explore some tips that will help transform your bedroom.
The color on your bedroom walls should be warm, cosy and lively. It should have a relaxing effect and add warmth to the room. Red, orange and green are good. Steer clear of dull colors which have a tendency to dampen one's mood. Match everything else in the room around these colors. This includes the carpet or area rug, curtains and bed linen. Choose rich designs that add a luxurious feel to the room. Be original in your patterns and invent a design from a symbol you like. Keep it all harmonious so that you do not end up with a shaggy look. To avoid using too many patterns, have some pieces in rich tones complementing the primary colors in the room.
Your flooring should be comfortable and warm. A rich carpet beneath your feet is luxurious. Your feet will appreciate stepping on it every morning. Don't limit yourself to using curtains only for the windows. If you prefer blinds or shades, go for it - anything that will enhance the look. But whatever you choose should be both practical and aesthetic. If your window faces a great outdoors, and most bedrooms do, you will want a window treatment that opens up to the beauty outside while maintaining the privacy you need.
A little furniture in the bedroom is alright. Leave it at a minimum so that it does not look crowded. If you like working in the bedroom, a comfortable chair and desk or armoire will serve you well. You may need a lamp for working at your desk. Remember to keep all the furniture in rhythm with the rest of the room. You can have a display shelf or table where all your souvenirs, trophies, photos and favorite artwork go. A little bookcase in the bedroom is also great. This way, your books are well organized.
The bedroom is the one room where you can bare your soul so go on and be as original and creative as you can. If you enjoy decorating rooms along themes, you can do the same with the bedroom. Develop your own theme or adopt one of the many themes being used everywhere. The essence of a theme is to dwell on a given aspect and it can be inspired by all sorts of things, both major and minor. Dwell on nature, the ocean, go Oriental, Egyptian, ancient or modern. The most important thing is that your bedroom looks inviting and makes you want to stay there longer.
